FAQ's

Why should I choose NEW HATCHES? We offer state of the arc facilities all under one roof. Our staff are experienced with all types of horses and are dedicated to proving the best care and attention to details for your horse and peace of mind for you. We are recommended to horse owners by Equine hospitals, Vets, physiotherapists   around the country. We are a TEAM.

Can I visit my horse? Yes, anytime during our  opening hours  8am to 5pm and other times by appointment as a member of staff needs to be here.

Can I help with the rehab? Yes; you can get as involved as you like and we can help you with training for long reining lunging etc.

How many horses are in at a time? We have 12 large stables in our specialist rehab barn so there is always a few horses in. They are never left on their own.

Will my horse settle if my horse box walks? All the horses seem to settle very well as we have created a calm environment with just convalescing horses in the rehab barn and the liveries in another.

What size are the stables as my horse is big? 9 of our stables are just over  14 x 12 and with 3 additional 3 foaling boxes which are larger.

Will my insurance cover the rehab costs? You will need to check with your insurance provider as each stipulate different Terms and Conditions, we can guide you through the claims if required.

Who provides the rehab plan for my horse? We work with the vets the horse and yourself and following instructions for the vets recommended rehab plan.

How do I know its working? We send you regular video/ picture updates showing your horse being worked whether than be hand walking, long reining, lunging, ridden in the turnout pens, field or just in their stable. You are more than welcome to see your horse being worked.

When will my horse be worked? Our usual day starts with feeding and haying  at 8am or before and once the livery horses are turned out we than concentrate on the rehab barn. Our staff muck out, turnout and work the horses in hand or ridden am before lunch at 1pm. After 2pm we work the horses for their PM exercise which is mainly hand walking or putting on the walker.

What is the usual length of stay for each horse? It all depends on the injury, with some horses we see them though until ridden away, some we start the process and then the owner take them home to continue and we are always at the end of the phone for guidance. Once you have a stable with us, your horse can stay as long as you need them too, some owners even take the opportunity to go on holiday whilst their horse is with us!

What is included in your Pricing? We include a chaff feed of Dengie Healthy Tummy or Dengie Healthy hooves as most horses seem to enjoy these chaffs. Steam hay ad lib or controlled depending on the individual horses needs, straw in nets can be offered to horses on a diet. We make up a bed of shavings or straw and then charge for any additional bedding. We include up to 60 minutes of hand walking FREE OF CHARGE together with FREE use of the indoor horse walker if your program allows. Turnout pens and grass strips and fields are included if weather permits. We groom all horses daily and carry of baited stretches if physio has instructed. We hold for vets, physios etc.

Do we have to use your Vet? Absolutely not, we work with your trusted Team of vets and therapists and you can rest assured that we are a helpful addition to your horses Team.

What happens when my horse needs shoeing or trimming? Your farrier is more than welcome to come here. We do however have an on site farrier who specializes in working with you Vets and your horse with or without x ray guidance and takes great pride in his work. He also is the Head Farrier for Richard Hannon’s race yard so is used to dealing with highly strung competition horses.

What facilities do you have for rehabbing horses? First and foremost our knowledge and passion together with the skill set for the below . Indoor horse walker Salt water Treadmill Large flat hard standing surfacing ideal for hand walking , long reining when the rehab plan allows Many coloured poles ideal for rehabbing over with blocks to raise for different heights A 20 metre lunge pen  designed for horses needing to be worked  large circles Our manege is 60 x 27 metres with a surface which has been selected to be firm supporting and not deep even in the driest of climates, one of the best in the area. Off road hacking ideal for starting off the horses.

What do I need to bring? Passport, Grooming kit, 2 feed buckets, Rugs if needed, Bridle, Headcollar and lead Rope together with your horse

What is Rehabilitation? Rehabilitation can range from:- - Box Rest   - Restricted turnout - Controlled exercise such as: Hand walking in straight lines on a hard surface Long reining on a hard surface or in the manege Lunging with and without training aids ie pessoa, side reins, belly bands. Salt water Treadmill / Spa treatments Carrot stretches Electromagnetic massage rug Laser machine All of the above will :- * Restore normal range of movement * Improve strength and suppleness * Correct problems with balance and gait * Improve stamina and general fitness
